Hi I am Kerry. I am the founder of Be More Betty. I have spent 30 years teaching Pilates, yin yoga, and wellbeing events across the South West. In 2024 I decided to dive into menopause courses and learn more about it, as I was in it, and it was staring to have a negative impact on my job, my moods, sleep and my energy and most of all my confidence.
In 2025, I introduced my first clean, toxic-free skincare balm in Cornwall UK. I'm thrilled to share this with you, as it has truly been a journey. I wanted to explain why I decided to create it and hope this information might be helpful to you as well. I am 50 years old, perimenopausal, and honestly doing my best to navigate through it in the simplest and most effective way possible, without losing my composure! Ha ha.
Menopause: The Rollercoaster Ride of Aging Gracefully
As we approach menopause, it’s like stepping onto a rollercoaster where the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. One moment you’re feeling like a radiant goddess, and the next, your skin decides to host a surprise party for wrinkles—without sending you an invitation! Products that once worked wonders may now be as effective as a chocolate teapot, leaving us wondering if we accidentally joined a secret society of aging.
The Confidence Conundrum
One glance in the mirror can send us spiraling into a confidence crisis. Thanks to social media, we’re bombarded with images of flawless skin that make us feel like we’re auditioning for a horror movie. Staying wrinkle-free without injectables? We often find ourselves reaching for those pricey cosmetics that promise to turn back time—because who wouldn’t want to look like they just stepped out of a time machine?
The Hormonal Hijinks
And let’s not forget our monthly cycle, which can feel like an emotional game of “Guess Who?” One minute you’re feeling like a queen, and the next, you’re questioning every life choice you’ve ever made. Thanks, hormones!
Toxin Tango
Now, toxins are lurking everywhere, like uninvited guests at a party. But let’s start with skincare—because who wouldn’t want to slather their face in a concoction that sounds like a science experiment? We’ve got face wash, toner, serums, moisturiser, body cream, and perfume—oh my! That’s before we even step out the door!
The Hormonal Fallout
All these layers can lead to a dramatic effect on our hormones, making menopausal symptoms feel like they’re throwing a rave in our bodies. Not only that, but it can also lead to illness and unwanted health problems. So, as we navigate this wild ride, let’s remember to laugh at the chaos and embrace the beauty of aging—wrinkles and all! After all, if we can’t laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? I can promise you that BMB Beauty Balm is just like me.... beautifully raw, Intense, and full of love...
Understanding Toxins in Skincare
Many skincare products we trust contain harmful ingredients disguised as beauty enhancers. Common toxins include parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology found that parabens can disrupt hormone function, potentially impacting menopausal symptoms.
Synthetic fragrances and colours can also harbour toxic components that lead to skin irritation or allergic reactions. Research shows that as much as 30% of individuals may experience allergies from these substances. Given the rise in skin sensitivity during menopause, women increasingly seek clean beauty alternatives that prioritise skin health.
Embracing Natural Alternatives
In my pursuit of cleaner skincare and natural products, I decided to learn how to make my own. I'm proud to say that my product is free from parabens, nano materials, and other harmful substances. It is fragrance-free, cruelty-free, and versatile in its use.
My goal was not only to create an affordable option but also a straightforward, no-fuss product for busy women like myself who don't have time to waste.
Ingredients such as avocado oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter are renowned for their soothing properties. BMB Beauty Balm is packed with vitamins and Omegas.
Many women find these natural alternatives work effectively with their changing skin and provide relief from dryness and irritation. Making simple switches to products with natural formulas can rejuvenate skin and improve overall comfort during this life phase.
